Walk the Vote

Thank you for supporting Walk the Vote! We've outlined answers to all the questions we can think of below, but if you don't find an answer, call us at 913-649-3326 or email info@walthevote.org.

Where and when is the event?

The date is Saturday, June 17, 2017, rain or shine. Our event will begin at the Santa Fe Commons Park in Downtown Overland Park, Kansas, and will end roughly 1/2 mile later at the InterUrban Art House. Registration begins at 8 am, the walk is scheduled to start at 9 am. We expect to be done by 10 am. See a map of the walk route!

Should I come at 8 am?

Yes! There will be plenty to do. Teams can pose for pictures. You'll have a chance to meet with friendly legislators. There will be activities for kids. Maybe a song will break out! It is, frankly, a time to get together with people who want thr same goal: to finish the change we started in 2016.

Can I bring my kids? My dog? My grandmother?

Yes! This is not a strenuous walk, and we expect it to be fun. We will have kid friendly events at the kick-off, and there is plenty to do in Downtown Overland Park afterwards. Pets are welcome, as this is an outdoor event, but please be aware there will be lots of people (and kids) around. Use your best judgment.

Where can I park?

Downtown Overland Park is going through a building boom, so parking is more limited than usual right downtown. But there is a lot of parking on residential streets within a block or three of Santa Fe Commons Park.

How political can my team/signs/chants be?

MainStream is a non-partisan, policy based advocacy organization. That said, your team is your business. We encourage people to be engaged in the political process, and we have seen a lot of engagement these last six months. We love that energy! Bring it. Fly your flag. Work your passion.

What if it rains?

This event is rain or shine. If it rains, bring your umbrellas!

When does the event end?

The event ends when you arrive at the InterUrban ArtHouse. We think it will take about an hour to do the whole walk, so plan on being done by 10 am or earlier. At that point, we encourage you to participate in the creation of a political mural at the ArtHouse, and/or visit Downtown Overland Park and the Farmer's Market. Just keep wearing your shirts and carrying your signs!
